We unloaded our sled and Jeff took an empty one back with a team
of dogs to retrieve Dunc and Terri.
In the meantime, the rest of us began gathering wood for a fire,
and shoveling snow to make a place for the tent. We dug out a section
of snow about 4ft by 10 ft that would be the front section of the
tent. We had to shovel the snow down to the ground so that we could
place the woodburning stove near the ground.
The snow we shoveled was thrown to the back of the space where
the tent was to go. We built a pad about 3ft high that was approximately
8ft by 10ft. We packed the snow down, leveled it out so that we
could place a tarp on top of it.
This "loft" in the tent was where we put all 8 of our sleeping
bags and where we would eventually spend two nights sleeping on
the compacted snow (translation: Block of ice). By the time Jeff,
Dunc and Terri got back to the campsite, it was dark.
